Whiteway Corner

Whiteway building

Since the 1920’s this sand-colored brick structure has been lighting the way through the heart of the historic district.

Electricity came of age then and was on full display as a series of street lamps were installed on Park and King providing a glow for residents on the way home from work or those able to shop into the night under bright white lights.

This year marks the 50th anniversary when George Martin took ownership of Whiteway Corner. He is marking this special anniversary during Home Tour to provide a look back the workmanship still on display especially on the building’s second floor.

Recently, George rehabilitated the second floor of the building removing coverings hiding historic molding and flooring and painted walls to the same color as when he first managed the new building. He is also proudly displaying many of the original posters, maps and other historic artifacts from his collection during the Tour.

Many of the unique stores and restaurants will be open not only on Saturday but Sunday also
