This magnificent home returns to the Riverside Avondale Annual Home Tour this year after being featured during last year’s tour in its “Before” state.
A classic example of Colonial Revival architecture featuring massive columns and a large verandah, the house was built in 1911 for David Leon, an insurance company manager at the May-Cohens department store.
But when Donny Mak purchased the house two years ago, it had been vacant for more than two decades. (The previous owner, who never lived in the home, had hoped to undertake repairs, but faced continual setbacks in his restoration efforts.) As seasoned rehabbers with several award-winning restorations under their belt, Donny and his partner recognized the home’s “great bones and character.”
Now, after a top-to-bottom restoration in which no system was left untouched, this stately home is ready for its “big reveal.”
