This one-story brick veneer house was built in 1928 for H. F. McAden, a local builder who built a number of homes in the Avondale area, including the one next door. According to neighbors, the daughters of the original owner still lived in the home in the late ‘80s, and were “wonderful ladies full of stories about how the neighborhood had changed during their lives here.”
Current owners Jennifer and Steve Truitt moved to the historic district from Silicon Valley three years ago and both work from home, Steve as a Software Engineer at Lockheed Martin and Jennifer as a Program Manager at HP Software. The home retains lots of vintage details, such as the original phone service, light fixtures and door bell. When the couple remodeled the home, they found beautifully preserved plaster walls beneath the original cardboard wall paper in the dining room. The couple has also updated the kitchen, master bath and closet, and added a half bath. The house also features two chimneys, one of which, mysteriously, goes nowhere.
